Rapid deforestation and changes in land use pattern dried up the water sources in the mountainous villages of Kalahandi in rural Odisha. In 2018, Interglobe Foundation partnered with Gram Vikas to bring back the forests, springs and life to the hill communities. Over the last two years, five village communities have gone over and beyond their initial promise of 65,000 saplings. They have instead raised and planted more than 81,000 saplings which will regenerate 215 acres of land. Watch the video on how an afforestation initiative created local livelihoods for women, ensures water conservation and regenerates land.
